We are delighted to announce that Similie has won a Microsoft AI for Earth Community Grant to support Similie’s Artificial Intelligence for Flash Flood Detection project with @Mercy Corps.
This grant of $15,000 provides Similie with access to Microsoft’s Azure AI Tools and cloud computing resources, the Microsoft AI for Earth Technical Team and the opportunity to network with a global community of grantees.
What does this mean for Similie?
Similie will be use the grant to support an existing project with Mercy Corps to explore the use of AI for flash flood detection for 5000 households living near a river in remote #TimorLeste. Our AI Platform will adjust in real-time how we detect dangerous river flows, integrated with our cloud-based multi-hazard Early Warning System, allowing alerts to be sent out to communities. This project is solving a common problem of how to provide flash flood warnings in locations with little or no local historical data from which to define triggers for flood alerts.
